The pea factory, also known as Mrs. Pea, was developed by Ed Johnson, a Wisconsin farmer, in 1923. Mr. Johnson kept Mrs. Pea in the cellar so that none of his competitors would find out about her. It wasn’t until 1969, when Mr. Johnson died and his farm was sold that his secret became known. It is estimated that the Pea Factory produced over 20 billion peas during its 45 years on Mr. Johnson’s farm.
