Developed in collaboration with the UCSC DANM Mechatronics group and sonicSENSE, hydroConversion converted data collected in flex sensors embedded in the ice sculpture as a metaphor for sea ice walls in Antartica — data was then used to alter the movement of the robotic sculptures inside the space to visualize the conversion of ice to water. Audio for the piece was created using data sets of light pollution data collected from the International Dark Sky Association. SonicSENSE (2008-2012) is an expandable site for art, culture, new technologies, digital media, collaboration, and participation created in collaboration with Barney Haynes.
